For starters, your house is icy cold because your heater is malfunctioning. In order to avoid burning your house down, you had to shut it off because the wiring was causing sparks. An alternative to camp fire bathing is solar shower bathing. A 300 ft long garden hose on a black asphalt shed roof works great when the sun is out and the roof is hot. Cold spring fed water heats up fast when passing through a long a solar heated garden hose. This may not be a permanent solution to washing down an old hippie but it's useful during the preliminary stages of frontier construction. More advanced home made solar heating applications that use the greenhouse effect are possible, but let's get the roof nailed down before we make a serious connection with the sun.
